Farewell to Maurie Phillips

It was with great sadness this week that we learned of the death of Maurie Phillips who had been a much loved volunteer and committee member for many years before retiring to Kerikeri. Maurie used to help in our community shop and do a lot of maintenance jobs for us around our site. When we were still in Centreway Road he had built a ramp for disabled customers and when we moved to our current site Maurie was one of the men who erected all the new shelving in the shop. He even dressed up as Santa for the young children who used to attend our preschool. If a wooden jigsaw came in with a piece missing Maurie was on hand to skillfully cut out and paint a new piece to make it match. He was always friendly, cheerful and caring as well as being a wise and calm committee member. The Community House was a better for having Maurie on board. Much love from us all.
